Ultimately, it seems fairest to assume that people are playing RC-governed EDH. I don't play by the French ban list and probably never shall for the reasons that you stated I'm not interested in playing a different ban list with different rules. In my opinion, the reasonable expectation is that when someone challenges you to a game of 1-on-1 EDH, it's with 40 life using the RC banlist, not any variant list. It's just a problem when a variant on a format comes out and sees some popularity. I am certain that other people play this way and that there are probably people in your area who play that way. It's not as though EDH is French-ruled when 1-on-1 I know that my play group does 1-on-1 by what I consider real EDH rules (the RC rules) whenever there aren't enough players around or people just feel like it. I just want to know if people care or not about the French rules. PS:I dont want this thread to become a multiplayer rules are broken in 1v1 match thread. I ask this because I don't want any disputes with other people when I ask for a 1v1 match when there aren't other people around to join. Are people that stubborn about the French list as much as I am with the regular rules? I don't want to switch cards and strategies (10 life difference is huge) just because it's 1v1 and not multiplayer. I guess I will be stubborn about it and will want to stick with these regular rules. I've also played with the regular EDH rules online on MWS and Cockatrice and it seems to be fine. I personally have gotten used to having 40 life and don't want to bother spending $40 on a Wasteland and swapping out cards to fit the french rules. ![]() and one that follow french ban lists) or do people swap out these cards to fit the French Ban list? Now, do people carry around decks that fit one or the other (1 for multiplayer that contains Sol Ring, Bitterblososm, etc. I also know some people at my LGS has cards like Bitterblossom, Vampiric Tutor, etc. I build one EDH deck and it contains cards like Sol Ring, Sensei's Divining Top, Strip Mine (because I don't have any Wastelands. Now, I'm wondering how people do one and not the other. From what I know, the French rules have banned certain cards and start at 30 life instead of 40. I know there's a huge difference between the "normal" EDH rules and the French (which is specifically tailored to 1v1 matches). There will be no updates to the rules in the foreseeable future that affect how Extort works in Commander. So I'm fairly new to EDH and I'm wondering how people react to a 1v1 EDH match. Extort adds no colored mana symbols to a card outside of its reminder text, and therefore is legal for play in Commander decks of any color or colors (as long as the card it appears on is otherwise legal, of course). With the release of Gatecrash, we'd like to clarify our stance on Extort by confirming that, as always, reminder text has no effect on color identity. There was actually even a note in the latest banlist announcement confirming that this is how Extort works for color identity. The fact that there were only two(?) cards prior to Gatecrash with colored mana symbols in their reminder text is irrelevant. ![]() Colored symbols in reminder text didn't affect color identity before Gatecrash, and they still don't. Quote from LithlThere was no ruling, simply confirming/clarifying the existing rules.
